COVID-19 Updates

Throughout the academic year, the Division of Student Affairs will provide regular guidance and answers to student questions and concerns related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. These updates are based on feedback received from student inquiries to University Health Services (UHS) and conversations with members of Student Government

SYMPTOMATIC TESTING AND RESULTS REPORTING
Symptomatic testing involves testing those who are showing symptoms of COVID-19, and several testing options are available to students both on and off-campus. To assist with course planning and student support, the University provides a report to instructors that lists enrolled students who are required to quarantine or isolate due to COVID-19.

Additionally, following normal practice, any student with an absence - medical or otherwise - should contact their instructors as soon as possible and apprise them of the situation. Any encounter with UHS will be documented and a summary can be shared by the student with the professor as needed. Please note, however, that a formal, excused absence will require an appointment with a UHS provider. At the appointment, the provider will determine whether an excused absence is necessary.

Please read and review the following to ensure your results are being accurately reported to the University.

ON-CAMPUS TESTING

Symptomatic testing is available by appointment only at the University Testing Center. Students experiencing a high fever, difficulty breathing, or loss of taste or smell should complete the Student Symptomatic Test Request Form to schedule a test at the Testing Center. Students who feel ill more generally (e.g., persistent headache, body aches, sore throat, or fatigue) should call UHS at 574-631-7497. The results of tests performed at the Testing Center are automatically uploaded to a student’s UHS Patient Portal and reported to the University.

OFF-CAMPUS TESTING
Students who receive a COVID test at an off-campus pharmacy or lab and test positive should call UHS at 574-631-7497 to discuss their results with a staff member within 24 hours of receiving the result. Students must then upload their results to their UHS Patient Portal. No confirmatory test is required. After speaking with a UHS staff member and uploading results, UHS will report the results to the University and initiate the isolation process. The date of the student’s upload will determine the Day 0.

AT-HOME TESTING
Students who use an over-the-counter COVID testing kit and test positive should call UHS at 574-631-7497 to discuss their results with a staff member who will then order a confirmatory test at the Testing Center. For at-home tests, students do not need to upload their results to their UHS Patient Portal. Rather, the on-campus confirmatory test will automatically be uploaded to the student’s UHS Patient Portal and reported to the University, which will determine the Day 0 for isolation purposes.
