The Rev. John Francis "Pop" Farley, C.S.C. Award
The Rev. John Francis "Pop" Farley, C.S.C., Award honors individuals with distinguished service to student life at the University of Notre Dame. The award recognizes those who have demonstrated a depth or breadth of impact on the student experience; successful collaboration with colleagues within or beyond the Division; the embodiment of the University’s Catholic, Holy Cross charism; and a willingness to go above and beyond the responsibilities of their role to serve students. Full or part-time employees who have given more than five years of service to the University are eligible.
The award honors Fr. John Francis Farley, C.S.C., who received the nickname “Pop” for the way he cared for students over his 30-years of service as Rector in Corby, Walsh, and Sorin halls. He is the namesake of Farley Hall, which was built shortly after his death in 1939. At his funeral, one of Pop’s brother priests in Holy Cross said of him: “[His] work was with and for the students, [and he] loved that work as dearly as a scholar ever loved his book.”
