Established in 2009, the women of Ryan have created a rich tradition and have won the Women’s Hall of the Year award twice, in both 2011-12 and 2013-14. Ryan Hall is known for its spirited campus involvement, competitive intramural presence, and strong sense of community. With signature events such as Wheelchair Basketball, Relay for Life participation and fundraising, and Caring Cats Clothing Collection (a campus-wide clothing drive to benefit St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Joseph County), the women of Ryan show their dedication to serving the local South Bend community. Each Tuesday night, their Priest-in-Residence, Fr. Joe Carey, hosts Ryan Hall residents for “FJ’s”, an ice cream and cookie social in his apartment. Though new to campus, Ryan Hall has fully embraced the Notre Dame identity, becoming one of the best and most inviting places to live on campus.
Allyse Gruslin comes to the Rector position after completing her Master of Divinity at Notre Dame in the Spring of 2016. While at Notre Dame she served as an Assistant Rector and fell in love with residence hall life. During her time at Notre Dame she also served as a chaplain to the Notre Dame Folk Choir. Allyse graduated from Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 2008. While at Assumption she spent a lot of time as a student activities executive, orientation leader, and active member of campus ministry leadership. After college she did a year of service at a youth retreat center on Shelter Island, NY—a small island only accessible by ferry! From there she served for four years as a campus minister at Holy Trinity Diocesan High School on Long Island, NY. Here she piloted a leadership team, facilitated student leadership training, provided retreats for all grade levels, led liturgical music, and guided service trips to Nazareth Farm in West Virginia and Georgia.
In addition to serving at the school, Allyse and two friends founded a traveling retreat ministry called ABC Ministries. For four years her team traveled around the tri-state area providing retreats to high school students. Allyse originally hails from the small but great state of Rhode Island and has a deep love for singing.
